Group Assignment
[ Stop Motion Animation Loop ]

-> Team : Amelia & Jiyou & Jinnie

The first thing that came to mind was the various stop-motion animations I enjoyed watching as a child. I liked animations with cute characters that conveyed fun without dialogue, relying solely on movement. We thought it would be fun to try a similar style for this assignment as well. Stop-motion can be applied in many ways, and we've decided to create an animation that gives the effect of transitioning from 2D to 3D.

Process

-> We purchased a cute character figure from a shop near the school and used straws, paper, and supports taken from the junk shelf on floor.

-> In the drawing process, when drawing the door, we connected the three sides by drawing short lines bit by bit.

-> During the process of cutting out the floor to create the door, we made an effort to match the original angle from when we first drew it.

While editing, since the work was done analog, every frame needed correction and additional edits. We used our hands to hold the door in place as it opened, and in all the frames where our hands was captured, we had to erase it. We also thought it would enhance the immersion of the animation if we removed the straws and hot glue that were connected to the character. Through these additional corrections, we were able to achieve a refined animation, and I feel happy with the satisfying result.

Even though we shot in the same environment and position, the brightness of each frame varied slightly due to our shadows, creating a flickering effect throughout. At first, we tried to unify the brightness, but we felt that the analog charm of the drawing process was better emphasized, so we decided not to make further adjustments.
